Museum Lab: Frequent visits to the exhibit galleries immerse students in kid-sized interactive experiences and provide authentic opportunities to work with visiting visual and performance artists that promote academic achievement. Project Based Learning: Museum staff and classroom teachers plan together to develop exciting projects linking museum exhibits to the classroom. Access to MCM Programming for Charter School Parents and Educators: Monthly seminars with community experts, professional development workshops, special events and Free Museum Evenings. School Day: Kindergarten 8:30 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.; First & Second Grades 8:30 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. Sample Schedule 8:30-9:00 am Arrival, attendance, etc. 9:00-11:00 am Visit to Ocean Odyssey Exhibit to begin investigations of ocean-dwelling organisms and their habitats. Students work in gallery includes creating representational drawings of ocean organisms using observation and book resources to inform their drawing. 11:00-11:30 am Lunch (MCM’s on-site restaurant Subway offers healthy lunches for students) 11:30-11:50 am Outside activities, including playground and organized field play 12:00-1:00 pm Take part in discussion regarding ocean animals that shed their exoskeleton. Identify and sort images of animals with or without exoskeletons. Put exoskeleton “sheds” into sequence from small to large and from young to mature. 1:00- 3:00 pm Small-group work focused on Language Arts/Reading.
